Zcon Voices Brazil Recap

On Saturday 18th March, the Zcash Foundation (ZF) co-hosted its first-ever Zcon Voices event.  Zcon Voices: Brazil was held at the Museu do Amanhã in Rio de Janeiro, and welcomed 60+ attendees from across the great country of Brazil. View the event photo album and this video for a glimpse of the day.

ZF’s event series, Zcon Voices, aims to provide a platform for regional-specific conversation and education about strong use cases for Zcash and financial privacy. Zcon Vozes Brasil was contextualized and organized by our amazing Zcash Brazil team and was presented mainly in Portuguese, with a few Spanish-speaking presenters as well. The event focused on current opportunities in the cryptography and privacy world and challenges in these areas specific to Brazil.

The Zcash Brazil team was led by former global ambassador Michae2xl and, together with ZF staff, executed a professional, thoughtful, and inspiring event (this event was in addition to Zcash Brazil’s ZCG grant). This collaboration created a safe place for open dialogue and fostered thought-provoking discussions. For example, Zcon Vozes Brasil speaker João (Pizza Jay) said, “Privacy loves company” while talking to friends and attendees at lunch.  Michael wrote, “…The Zcash Foundation has been instrumental in creating a medium for the community to come together and discuss the latest developments in the Zcash space and privacy.”

The event’s success was due to the speakers’ contributions as well. The content varied from privacy in centralized and decentralized exchanges and DAOs to the flaws with the governance of cryptography. Speakers kept the audience engaged and motivated—so much so, positive conversations and questions were heard throughout the breaks and cocktail reception and rippled into social media outlets afterward. In addition, we were privileged to have Brazil’s-own Isabela Fernandes, Executive Director of Tor, close out the one-day conference.

With support from the AV Club, ZF provided AV equipment and instruction, enabling the event to be live-streamed and translated. To learn more about the details of the Zcon Voices live stream, you can check out the most recent ZF A/V Club Meetup, where they broke down the setup. This donated equipment will be used for future events Team Zcash Brazil will host, in cities like Rio and São Paulo, enabling the team to share their local events with the world.

Finally, ZF would like to thank the organizers, speakers, attendees, and vendors who helped make this event a huge success and strengthened the credibility of Zcash.

Zcash Brazil team leader, Michae2xl, reflected, “This Zcon Vozes Brasil event brings a lot of significant values post-event.  For example, it brings credibility, more voice, and more doors open to collaborating with speakers, other projects, and spaces. ”

The energy from Zcon Voices Brazil caused a sound wave heard in Brazil and across the world!
