The Zcash Foundation Board of Directors has appointed David Campbell as Executive Director. He succeeds Alex Bornstein, who has led the Foundation since March 2025. Alex will remain with the Foundation in a transition role through the end of January 2027, working closely with David to ensure continuity for the team and the ecosystem.
Thank You, Alex
Alex joined the Foundation as Chief Operating Officer in 2021 and stepped up to lead it in March 2025. He guided the Foundation through one of the most challenging periods in Zcash’s history, and he did it with steadiness, candor, and a constant focus on bringing the ecosystem together.
Alex shares his reflections in his personal announcement. On behalf of the Foundation and the Zcash community, the Board thanks him for more than five years of service.
“Alex’s cool, collaborative leadership has really helped the Zcash community flourish in this dynamic and high-growth phase” — Andrew Miller, Chair, Zcash Foundation Board of Directors
Welcoming David Campbell
David brings nearly three decades of experience building and securing critical systems. He founded the security firm Electric Alchemy, co-founded JumpCloud as its founding CEO, and served as Chief Security Officer at SendGrid through its IPO.
He has been part of the Zcash ecosystem since 2018, first as an advisor to the company that became Electric Coin Company and then as its Chief Operating Officer for four years. For the past two years, he has worked as a technical consultant to the Foundation, alongside the team he will now lead.
With multiple teams now maintaining full node implementations and sharing responsibility for Zcash’s infrastructure, the Foundation’s next phase calls for deep security expertise. David brings that, along with long-standing relationships across the ecosystem that will help him continue the collaboration Alex built.
“My first priorities are the fundamentals: keeping Zebra and the Foundation’s infrastructure fast, secure and reliable as more teams share responsibility for Zcash, and making privacy something ordinary people can use without thinking about it.”— David Campbell, Executive Director, Zcash Foundation
Looking Ahead
The Board thanks the Foundation’s team and the Zcash community, whose trust and partnership make this work possible.
